EU Directive 2023/2673 (amending Article 16a of the Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU) requires more than just a technically functioning form. It's also about visibility, labeling, your legal documents, and a clean internal process. Take your time going through this list – it takes about 15 minutes.

A · Visibility & Accessibility

According to Article 16a(1) of the Consumer Rights Directive (as amended by Directive 2023/2673), the withdrawal button must be permanently available and easily accessible in your shop. These are the two most common pitfalls.

☐ Button or link is permanently visible

You have two recommended options:

Footer integration – a link or button in the shop footer, visible on every page
Floating button – a floating button shown on every page

Important: "Only on the contact page" or "only in the customer account" is not sufficient.

The link must be visually distinct from other links (imprint, terms, privacy policy) – e.g. through color, font size, or button styling.

What is Revoq?

Revoq is a Shopify app that embeds the electronic withdrawal function in your store – as required by EU Directive 2023/2673 from June 19, 2026. Learn more: What is Revoq?

What does Revoq do – and what does it not do?

Revoq handles: the legally required withdrawal form, storing withdrawal requests, sending receipt confirmations to customers, and – depending on plan and settings – automatic order tagging, holding or cancelling unfulfilled orders, and creating Shopify return requests.

Revoq doesn't handle: refunds, return labels, restocking, accounting, the final legal assessment of a withdrawal, or the functions of a returns portal, ERP, or warehouse management system. These steps remain part of

Customize the Confirmation Email in the E-Mail Editor

The E-Mail Editor lets you customize the confirmation email customers receive after submitting a withdrawal request.

You can edit the subject, body, language, and tone of the email. You can also insert variables, show optional content only when needed, and use HTML for simple layouts, links, tables, or an externally hosted logo.

Where to Find the E-Mail Editor

You can open it from the Revoq app navigation under E-Mail Editor.

You can also open it from Settings. In the Customize confirmation email section, click Open E-Mail Editor.

What You Can Customize

In the E-Mail Editor, you can customize:

confirmation email subject
email body
template language
formatting such as bold, italic, bullets, and links
variables such as reference, order, products, or shop name
optional sections for withdrawal reason and customer message
HTML source for simple layouts, signatures, and external logos
preview with sample data

How to embed the withdrawal access in your shop

Revoq offers three ways to embed the withdrawal form in your shop. Which option fits best depends on your theme, your design preferences, and the visibility you want. This article explains the differences – so you can make the right choice.

All three options meet the requirements of EU Directive 2023/2673 (amending Article 16a of the Consumer Rights Directive), as long as the form is permanently visible and clearly labeled.

Set up a dedicated withdrawal page

The "Dedicated Withdrawal Page" is the recommended setup option: the form lives on its own permanent URL in your shop and is made accessible through a link in the footer. This article shows how to set it up – including the manual route, in case the setup assistant has already been completed.

Embedding in Vintage Themes

Accepted Answer

Vintage themes – older Shopify themes from before Online Store 2.0 – don't support app blocks. The embedding options "Dedicated withdrawal page" and "Button in a section" therefore don't work. But: You can still fully use Revoq with a vintage theme. This article shows you how.

Here's how to find out:

In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
On your active theme, click Customize.
In the theme editor: If you see no puzzle icon in the top bar and there's no "Add app block" option in your sections → it's likely a vintage theme.

| Tip: When in doubt, check the Shopify Theme Store – all themes there are labeled as vintage or Online Store 2.0. If your theme is no longer findable in the store, it's very likely vintage.
